Mr Dizi is a modest but welcoming Persian restaurant tucked away on Finch Avenue West in North York, specializing in traditional Iranian stews and kebabs. This spot caters to those who crave a taste of authentic Persian home cooking rather than flashy modern interpretations. The atmosphere is straightforward—more about the food and less about elaborate decor—making it a practical choice for a casual lunch or a relaxed dinner with friends or family.

Visitors here tend to come with a clear purpose: to dig into hearty dishes like the signature dizi—a slow-cooked lamb and bean stew that arrives in its own stone pot, inviting you to savor both the broth and the meat with traditional accompaniments. This particular dish is often cited as the highlight, resonating especially with diners familiar with Iranian cuisine. Alongside the dizi, other staples such as koobideh kebabs and lamb chops appear on the menu, though they don’t quite steal the spotlight from the slow-simmered stews. The rice, served fluffy and aromatic, is more than just a side; the crisp, golden tahdig—Persian crispy rice crust—has earned remarks for its nostalgic quality and satisfying texture.

The restaurant’s vibe feels close-knit and unpretentious, with staff who come across as genuinely friendly and accommodating. It’s the sort of place where a quick solo lunch or a laid-back gathering can both feel right at home. Locals with Iranian roots often stop in to find flavors that remind them of family kitchens and childhood meals, while others come to explore the rich layers of Persian comfort food in a straightforward setting.

In terms of timing, visiting during lunch or early dinner hours tends to work well, when the kitchen rhythm is steady and the service attentive without fuss. The relatively affordable prices paired with generous portions make it a practical option for midweek meals or casual weekend outings.

What to keep in mind:

  • The dizi is the centerpiece — best experienced slowly, as intended, to appreciate the full depth of flavors.
  • Koobideh and other grilled items are decent but tend to be overshadowed by the stews and rice dishes.
  • Try the accompanying traditional yogurt-based drink (doogh) for a refreshing contrast.
  • The setting prioritizes authenticity and comfort over contemporary design, so come for the food and friendly service more than the ambiance.

Whether you grew up with these flavors or are discovering Persian cooking for the first time, Mr Dizi offers a grounded, sincere experience that centers on the basics done well and without pretense.

I tried Mr. Dizzy and overall had a really good experience. Their dizi is absolutely amazing. No complaints at all. I also ordered a Vaziri with rice. The rice was very good, and the tahdig was the highlight. It genuinely reminded me of my grandmother’s homemade tahdig, which says a lot. That said, the kobideh and joojeh were just okay, nothing special compared to the dizi. If I were to recommend anything, I’d say definitely go for the dizi. that’s what really stands out here. On top of that, the staff were very friendly, the service was great, and the place was clean and pleasant. Overall, a nice spot, especially if you’re craving a truly great dizi.

This place is a hidden gem in Toronto! The dizi tasted absolutely authentic, just like the ones you’d find in Iran. The barg kebab was perfectly cooked, tender, and full of flavor. Even the rice was delicious, fluffy, and aromatic. But what really stood out was the homemade Doogh, it was truly in another league! The staff were extremely kind and friendly, making the whole experience warm and memorable. Highly recommend this spot if you’re craving real Persian food with genuine hospitality!

I stopped by Mr. Dizzy for a quick lunch after work and ordered the Koobideh Kabab. The kabab was tasty, juicy and well-cooked, slightly on the salty side but still enjoyable. At around $19, the price is within the reasonable range I usually expect for this dish ($17–$20). The rice was good, the grilled tomato was perfectly cooked, and the overall presentation of the plate looked appealing. I would have preferred a bit more onion on the side, but that’s just a small suggestion. The restaurant itself has a cozy atmosphere with a beautiful design. The tables were clean, though the floor needed a bit of attention, nothing major, likely seasonal traffic. There was a cloth on the floor the entire time that staff may have simply missed. Service was friendly, though I would have appreciated the server checking in once or twice during my meal. Overall, considering the quality, price, and experience, I think 4 stars is a fair and honest review. I appreciate the effort small businesses put in, and this was a good lunch stop.

If you grew up in Iran, stepping into Mr. Dizi instantly feels like coming home — and the moment you taste their food, the nostalgia hits even harder. The highlight of my visit was definitely the Abgousht-e Boz Bash — unbelievably flavorful, perfectly slow-cooked, and rich with the aroma of fresh herbs and tender lamb. Every spoonful took me straight back to childhood memories of family gatherings and the comforting warmth of traditional Persian cooking. It’s rare to find that authentic “home” taste outside Iran, but Mr. Dizi absolutely nails it. The Koobideh was juicy, smoky, and perfectly seasoned — grilled to perfection with that signature Persian balance of spice and tenderness. The Barg Kebab and Joojeh Kebab were equally impressive — soft, buttery, and bursting with flavor, served beautifully with saffron rice that had the perfect tahdig crunch. For appetizers, I loved the Zeytoun Parvardeh, rich with walnuts, pomegranate, and olives — tangy and satisfying — and the Mast-o-Mousir, creamy with that irresistible garlicky depth, paired perfectly with fresh flatbread. Everything was served with care and attention to detail, from the plating to the portion sizes. The service was warm and genuine, just like you’d expect from a Persian household. Mr. Dizi Toronto is not the biggest, but truly the best. A must-visit for anyone craving real Persian comfort food in the city. Highly recommended — especially if you want to relive a little taste of Iran.

Good food, nice ambiance and reasonable prices. The specialties, the Dizis, are very good. Tasting fresh and delicious, served with some nice side dishes. The kebabs on the other hands aren't the stars of the show. If you go there, my recommendation is to stick with the Dizi, you can't go wrong. You can also get their loyalty card and collect stickers for future discounts. Oh and BTW, try their house dough. Thank me later

Updated version: We've already become regulars at this place, and all the pictures are from different visits :) Top items on the menu so far: Traditional Dizi and Salari Kabab. This Persian restaurant is awesome! I loved everything about it; the decorations were really nice, and the touches of Persian culture were super cute. The service was quick and really good. The sides went perfectly with what we ordered. The dining area was chill and cozy. But honestly, the food stole the show; it was such a great experience. I’ll definitely be coming back!

Mr Dizi is fantastic even if you skip the famous Dizi. Beyond the Dizi, they offer perfect kebab and rice options that are authentic and satisfying. Be sure to start your meal with their delicious soup—it's hearty, flavorful, and incredibly comforting. To finish, their aromatic tea (likely blended with saffron or cardamom) is wonderfully soothing and the perfect way to cap off a great meal. Highly recommended for a full Persian dining experience.

Amazing Dizi experience! I tried the traditional dizi here and it was absolutely delicious. Rich flavor, perfectly cooked, and served hot just the way it should be. The atmosphere felt cozy and authentic, and the staff were friendly and welcoming. After the meal, tea and baklava were served, beautifully presented and absolutely delightful. The warm, friendly atmosphere made the experience even more special and memorable. I will be back for sure!
